The MGB was of absolute importance for MG, as it was the first model of the House to be built on a load-bearing body. This revolutionized the world of British sports cars, as the MGB was a compact, rigid, reliable, and fun-to-use car.
It was undoubtedly a great success among enthusiasts and others, with production lasting from 1963 until 1980. In addition to the popular Roadster, the coupe or GT version, introduced in 1965 and designed by Pininfarina, represented the most practical variant for those who wanted a sports car with a decent load capacity.
In racing, the MGB GT stood out for being a car with an excellent competitiveness. Driven by Paddy Hopkirk in races such as the Targa Florio and the 12 Hours of Sebring, it obtained a good number of successes.
The example of 1971 in "Mallard Green" livery presented here was purchased new at the K Garage LTD in Mill Hill, October 30, 1971, and registered in England on November 1, 1971, with license plate "HVB 980K".
Its first owner was Mrs. J. Whittely, a London lady who had spent most of her life in the Indies and who wanted to enjoy her retirement by visiting her friends in an elegant sports car.
MRS. Whittely used and carefully preserved the MG, covering in fifteen years only 19,600 miles, until, in the spring of 1986, due to her advanced age, she was no longer able to drive. On June 9 of that year, the car was purchased by Mr. David Powell, a neighbour of Mrs. Wittely who kept it for 21 years, preserving it with maniacal care. On February 4, 2007, Mr. Powell sold the MG to a young Londoner who gave it to his girlfriend, a Spanish model living in London, Miss. Maria del Pilar Pino Heredia, who used it for a year, occasionally and for short journeys.
In 2008, Miss. Pino Heredia returned to live in Spain in Alicante and took the MG with her, where it was never registered keeping its original English license plates. On June 20, 2011, the MGB was purchased by the current owner, an enthusiast looking for a car to participate in historical races. The car was then registered in Italy and entrusted to a specialist who carried out a thorough overhaul and a first general preparation for racing.
Then, in 2016, the car was modified with the installation of a Sebring Kit and an engine with a volumetric supercharger by Ivor Searle. The car underwent a radical transformation, while still retaining the colour and much of the original appearance. In this configuration the car received the ACI CSAI competition approval document and participated in numerous events, obtaining excellent results.
The car is offered with all its original parts, including the original interior in "Autumn Leaf" colour and its original engine, and all the detailed documentation, including receipts and correspondence from previous owners. The car is homologated ASI Targa Oro and retains all ACI CSAI documentation to participate in regularity rally. An excellent opportunity for enthusiasts looking for a competitive and fun car for races and rallies.
