Successor to the revered E-Type, the XJ-S debuted in 1975 and remained in continuously evolved production for the next twenty years, making it one of the longest-lived Jaguar models ever. It was the last new Jaguar model created by the company's founder, Sir William Lyons, in concert with his longtime design partner, aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayers, who was involved in the early stages of development prior to his 1970 passing. Typical of both gentlemen's advanced thinking, while the new model did not appear as slinky as the feline E-Type, it was in fact more aerodynamic, and one of the world's fastest production cars of its era. It was a genuine, full-throated performance machine.

Jaguar first offered the XJ-S exclusively as a coupe, with both the original V-12 and, later, a six-cylinder engine; this was later joined by the XJ-SC with a targa-style removable roof panel. A limited-production convertible built exclusively for the United States market by Ohio coachbuilders Hess & Eisenhardt arrived for 1986, and would eventually be succeeded by a full factory-built convertible model two years later.

The Taylor factory XJ-S Convertible is finished in Diamond Blue with Saville Grey interior, complimentary Wilton wool carpeting, and blue canvas power top with glass backlight. Equipped with the fuel-injected V-12 engine, automatic transmission, power steering, power windows, power seat, cruise control, air conditioning, factory radio, and chrome side-view mirrors, it rides on BBS-style wheels shod in Eagle GT2 tires. Having covered 73,687 miles at the time of cataloging, it shows overall in very good driver-quality control, with slight age and use to the interior, in particular to the burled walnut trim, but retains much of its original paint. It would be a superb example to exercise and enjoy on the open road.
