Of course from day one opinions were divided about the look of the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, whereas the Ferrari 456 was unanimously greeted with approval, you either loved or loathed the 612. The fact is the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti represents a quantum leap improvement over the Ferrari 456. Our car is again a quantum leap better than the early 612s. This is a facelifted version of Ferrari 612. In addition, this car was bought from Kroymans Ferrari in Hilversum in 2008, the Netherlands and was almost exclusively maintained by them. The first owner selected a beautiful package of every option available. This, in other words, is a full-option, matching numbers and colour coded car. He chose the “Nero Daytona” exterior finish which has a brown glow in the sunlight. The entire interior is decked out in Cuio coloured leather. When you pop your head inside this 612 you are greeted with a most amazing luxurious sight. The Giallo rev counter stands out together with the most extensive navigation unit. The car has only 64.234 kilometres on the odometer from new.
The Ferrari’s exterior looks fantastic, being in the same prime condition it was when it arrived at the door of the Kroymans dealership. The well-maintained paintwork is 95% original. The car has immaculate 20” Competizione alloys shod in tires in the correct sizes. The lights and windows are too undamaged. As a fine stylistic element, the first owner chose silver-grey wing mirror hoods, a feature that really suits and completes the car’s look.
Taking place inside on the perfectly comfortable Daytona-style seats, you can truly appreciate this is a serious Grand Tourer. Even though it is down as a 2+2, most will have no problems sitting in the back. Anyway, who is going to complain about being driven around in an Italian GT with a 5.7 litre V12? As all of the cabin’s interior trim is upholstered in leather, it has a superior luxury feel compared to the standard 612, all courtesy of Ferrari’s Tailor Made division. They certainly covered themselves in glory and happily, the car’s three owners maintained it perfectly, leaving the leather in probably nicer condition than when it was fabricated. Carpets to match the overall great quality. The controls are naturally all completely void of the dreaded “sticky buttons”.
The car’s mechanical aspect has been perfectly looked after. The engine is original and all but one of its services was carried out by the original dealership, with the last one carried out by a well-known Ferrari specialist who also replaced the distribution belt. The F133H 5.7-litre engine produces 540 Ps at 7,250 rpm fed through an automatic Graziano F1 gearbox. The transmission is a good fit, leaving you with the option to go fully automatic or use the lovely big flappy paddles situated behind the steering wheel. We approve this setup as they do not move when you steer and this is exactly as it should be. Overall the Ferrari 612 handles beautifully. The ever-powerful engine runs delightfully. The soundtrack is immense and the manner in which it climbs through its revs provides endless joy. It has performance too, what to think about 0- 100km/hr in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 320km/hr. Of course, this V12 is a thirsty beast but its 110 litres sized fuel tank will not leave you stranded. The car’s brakes make light work of bringing this 1,840 Kg car to a halt.
The Ferrari 612 may be somewhat of an outsider in the world of modern Ferraris. Compared to other contemporary Ferraris they are sharply priced at the moment, but that is not likely to last for long. Only 3,025 were built so they will always remain a rare sight and to be blunt: it will be near impossible to find a modern and more capable Ferrari that also offers space for your family. The car comes with a complete car wallet and maintenance invoices. In short a beautiful Ferrari 612 Scaglietti with a stunning finish.
