Whilst the Ferrari 365GTC/4 appears quite similar to the modern Ferrari Daytona, it was actually a completely new design. The 4.4 litre V12 with four overhead camshafts is the same as in the Daytona. The 365GTC/4 was given a much longer nose allowing the carburettors to be placed sideways so as to shoe the V12 into the flatter nose. The Colombo V12 develops 340 Ps attached to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Just like the Daytona the GTC/4 has independent suspension on all four wheels. The rear height can be hydraulically adjusted. The GTC/4’s looks were extremely advanced for its day, with its typical 70’s wedge shape. The exotic exterior is enhanced by the flip-up headlights, the rubber front bumper and matt black accent on its rear end. In contrast to the Daytona the 365/4 was primarily designed with the flip-up headlights and therefore are integrated better as a whole compared to the Daytona. The six rear lights are also a striking design feature. Another special feature was the extensive choice one had in the finish; no less than 46 external colours and 10 different shades for inside. They were able supply the client with for that period unique option of any external colour imaginable! The press praised the car’s braking, supple gearbox action and extensive choice of finish. The 365GTC/4 is a very rare creature these days. Only 500 were ever built excluding 4 prototypes. 194 of the 500 made their way to America, leaving only 265 over for Europe and the rest of the world. Of those 265, 41 were RHD cars. Overall only 224 365gtc/4 were supplied as LHD.
This ”Marone Collorado” example is in very good original condition having been supplied from new in the States in 1972. Two years ago we sold this car to a collector who used it regularly and perfectly maintained it too. The car has only done 28,420 miles and has remained extremely original. The fine bodywork has nice and thin, correctly aligned panelwork. The paintwork was resprayed for purely cosmetic reasons and looks great. The chrome brightwork and alloy rims also are in splendid condition.
It has lovely “Tan” coloured carpets and leather upholstery. The completely original interior looks a peach. The Ferrari 365GTC/4 was designed of course to travel the continent at speed and in all comfort. A specious boot, rear seats and air-conditioning are mandatory. The Ferrari 365GTC/4 has all of the aforementioned making it a joy to travel in.
The car has been perfectly maintained in the last years by Germany’s top Ferrari expert: Eberlein in Kassel. The 4.4 litre V12 has a 5-speed manual and develops 320 Ps. The engine has 6 DCOE 38 Weber carburettors. The engine is in rude health and runs perfectly. Thanks to its good maintenance both the braking and suspension are in peak condition. The car drives as good as it looks. The Ferrari’s power build is surrounded by magic, every time you shift gear the magic starts all over again.
This is a wonderful matching numbers, superbly original, great looking and mechanical majorly sound Ferrari 365GTC/4.
