The Mk III BJ8 was the final and most sophisticated iteration of the universally admired Austin-Healey 3000 model, which was developed from the four-cylinder, 90 hp 100/4 first seen in 1953. The Mk III 3000, introduced in 1964, represented a considerable advance in terms of passenger comfort, stopping power, and performance – with 150 hp and 167 lbs./ft. of torque available from a 2.6-liter straight six.

The 1967 3000 Mk III BJ8 on offer is a well-optioned example with a matching-numbers engine and approximately 68,000 miles. Under the ownership of prolific collector and sports car devotee Larry W. Smith, the “Big Healey” underwent a frame-off restoration concluding in 2001, commemorated by a brass-tone plaque in the driver’s door jamb. As the restoration progressed, the 3000 was refinished from its original British Racing Green to Colorado Red, and the black hide upholstery and woodwork were also refurbished. The 3000 was subsequently stored for 19 years, and driven sparingly. The BJ8 was more recently freshened in previous ownership, and comes with $12,000 in receipts for work including a rebuild of the carburetors, radiator service, new fuel tank, and new folding top.

The Austin-Healey presents beautifully in all respects, and is accompanied by a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, noting its original options and build period of October 18–24, 1966. Also included are the original owner’s manual, brochures, a file of restoration receipts, plus its tonneau, boot and car covers.
