Unveiled at the 1977 Geneva show and intended for a broader public, different from that of 911 fans, the Porsche 928 was a new sort of car both for the Stuttgart marque and for the automotive world as a whole. Designed by Anatole Lapine, head of Porsche’s design studio at the time, in 1978 the 928 became the first sports car to be elected ‘Car of the Year’. In a complete departure for Porsche it was front-engined and powered by an all-alloy V8 specifically designed for it. The 928 would enjoy a long career, with regular improvements and power increases.
The first version, on sale from 1978, had a 4.5-litre engine developing 240bhp. In 1980 came a big leap forward with the arrival of the 928S, powered by an enlarged 4.6-litre engine boosted to 300bhp. The next major evolution was the S4 of 1986, an important advance as it incorporated styling changes as well as a 5-litre engine pushing out 320bhp. Proving an undouted commercial success, the 928 played a major role in Porsche’s history and today is winning the hearts of a new generation of GT enthusiast.
Very elegant, with its dark green metallic paint and beige leather interior, the example presented here has fewer than 60,000km (37,290 miles) on the clock. It was bought in October 2012 by its current owner, who had the ABS installation replaced by Porsche IMSA in Rouen and had the car given a full service, the cost of the work, in December 2014, totalling 4532€.
Delivered new to the official importer in Japan, Porsche Miwza, the car has an electric sunroof, air-conditioning, and electric seats. Testing the car has confirmed that the engine is performing as it should and that the car drives impeccably. Capable of strong mile-shrinking performance, this car is even more desirable as a result of its discreet colour scheme. Furthermore, very few examples can boast of such a modest mileage.
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Paris, at the Espace Champerret, France, on June the 23th, 2019.
