During the Sixties, we saw the emergence of a lot of sports cars with new design. The British genius engineer, Colin Chapman, adapts the concept of the central rear engine. So, the 46th project of the firm is a car far ahead of its time with a steel chassis and a fiberglass body. It is powered by a 1,470 cc Renault 16 TX engine and transmission that allows the car to reach about 180 km/h, helped by a Cx of 0.29 and an overall height of one meter that favors an extremely low center of gravity. The car presented in 1966 is a real sport-prototype and remains frugal, with fixed windows, no door handles and a stripped dashboard. The car evolved in 1971 with the Type 54 or Europa S2 look, which has sliding windows, a bolted body, a wooden dashboard and adjustable seats. It is still criticized for the lack of nobility of its mechanics. Lotus remedied it with his new Europa Twin Cam, Type 74. This one is equipped with a Ford 1558 cc engine, two twin carburetors Dell' Orto with a cylinder head with two overhead camshafts. The engine develops 105 hp and allows this little bomb to reach 200 km/h. In 1973, the Special "Big valves" version finally appeared, the ultimate evolution with larger valves that boosted power to 125 hp. Agile and giving amazing feelings, this car conquered its followers with nearly 10.000 units sold.
The car we present today is a Lotus Europa Twin Cam type 74 manufactured in July 1972. It was acquired in 2012 by its current owner to participate in the French Tour Auto. The car was then entrusted to The Workshop in the southwest to prepare it. Since 2012, more than 28,000 € have been invested for its preparation and its reliability. It is now equipped with an FIA rollbar, two Weber 40 carburetors and a 5-speed gearbox. The car is really efficient with its light weight (600 kg) and its vigorous mechanics. This Europa will open the doors of many competitions while providing amazing feelings behind the wheel.
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, on June the 20th, 2021.
