In 1957, almost 10 years after the launch of the family's eldest car, the 120, and after the 140 with its rack and pinion steering, Jaguar unveiled the XK150, a car with radically different lines to its predecessors. The car's profile is softened and the windscreen is now a single curved plane, like the rear window of the coupe.
Mechanically, the biggest difference from previous models is the introduction of disc brakes as standard. Disc brakes made their debut at Le Mans in 1954 on the Jaguar D-Type. The steering is rack and pinion as on the 140, the engine is still the 3.4 litre 190 bhp base engine and 220 bhp in the SE version with a blue painted cylinder head. More than an evolution, the 150 is a modern car, which meets the requirements of the American market.
The Jaguar XK150 presented here was first registered in the USA in 1960, as were most of the cars in production. It arrived here in its original configuration (black exterior and interior), but was rebuilt a long time ago and has a slight patina (only a veil of paint was recently redone). For aesthetic reasons, the current owner decided to give a racing look to his Jaguar by adding fog lights, removing the front and rear bumpers and adding a leather flange on the bonnet. On the outside, the XK150 looks very good and these changes add a lot of character. They give the coupe an aggressive, even bestial look on the front. The interior is in its original form even if the upholstery was recently redone, the headlights work but the meters should be checked so that they can also work.
Mechanically, the Jaguar behaves well on the road; braking is good and fairly straight, acceleration is crisp and the 4-speed manual gearbox works well after some time of adaptation. A custom exhaust system was added to the car and it is really the sound it makes that is captivating on this car; added to that its particular aesthetics, this Jaguar is a good opportunity to stand out in rallies and concours d'elegance.
With its recently overhauled engine, we offer you a car full of charm.
