One of the most memorable and exciting products of the Daimler-Benz and Chrysler merger was the Chrysler Crossfire, a muscular performance coupe based on the underpinnings of the Mercedes-Benz SLK. Brabus GmbH, the German tuning and accessory manufacturer long-known for building incredible Mercedes, naturally turned its attention to the Crossfire, developing new styling and performance modifications sold through selected Chrysler dealers. Since Brabus meant Mercedes to many, the Crossfire tuned by the company was sold under a new name, Startech.
Jim Taylor's Brabus Startech Crossfire boasts a 3.8-litre V-6, increased in stroke from the stock 3.2 engine, producing 300 hp and 291 lb/ft of torque at 3,800 rpm, driving through an automatic transmission, and exhaling through stainless steel sports exhaust. Additional features include a front spoiler and rear diffuser, rear roof spoiler, unique handbrake handle and pedal kit, sport steering wheel, and cargo cover and net, which along with the engine accumulates some $26,500 in options. Finished in Sapphire Silver Metallic over Dark Slate and Medium Slate leather interior, the car has been driven by Mr. Taylor 4,072 miles since delivery, yet shows hardly any of that mileage and remains in very strong condition. Mr. Taylor has cared for the car well, and it is accompanied by a clean Carfax.
Very few of these fascinating, exciting little factory hot rods were produced, and this is believed to have been the first to come to market in some time. Offered in as-new condition, it promises fine pep for the dollar, and would be an interesting choice to complement either a Chrysler or Mercedes-Benz collection – or as a fascinating and distinctive everyday automobile.
