Chassis No. 13639

Engine No. 14219

Alvis 4.3-Litre chassis no. 13639, offered here, was originally outfitted as a saloon by Charlesworth and sold by Glasglow dealer Galt's to Robert Reid of Edinburgh, Scotland. Its subsequent history picks up after the war with A.F. Adams of Northumberland in 1969; in 1993 it was sold by the estate of Dr. Eric Marsden of Lancashire to Stan Williams of Worcester. Mr. Williams had the Alvis reconditioned by Nick Simpson and used it extensively, including twice running in the Monte Carlo Classic rally in 1996 and 1997.

While participating in another rally in 2000, the Alvis suffered a tragic fire that destroyed the original coachwork. It was subsequently restored by Mr. Williams and Mr. Simpson, with its chassis shortened, a hood cut with extra cooling louvers and screens, and a modified fuel filler installed, as well as new aluminum drophead coupe coachwork inspired by period designs of J. Gurney Nutting. The engine was set up with triple SU carburetors and dual fuel pumps, as well as electric cooling fans. The restoration in the 4.3's new guise was completed early in 2003, after which the car continued to rally extensively for over a decade.

Jim Taylor acquired the Alvis in 2014, and has continued to tour and rally with it, including driving it in the Colorado Grand. It remains in beautiful condition, with its rich dark blue finish, dark blue canvas top, and dark red leather interior, with front bucket seats, all in fine order, and a rich burled walnut dashboard fitted with factory Smiths instrumentation. Lucas P100 headlights and 19-inch Rudge wire wheels are perfect finishing touches. The car is accompanied by a history file and an original owner's book, and its odometer showed 17,690 miles at the time of cataloging.

This is a superb prewar touring car, of beauty and fine quality.
