Description

A year after the introduction of the Vanquish Zagato Coupe at Lake Como, Italy, the Vanquish Zagato Volante convertible debuted at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®. The product of a successful relationship between Aston Martin and the Italian design house of Carrozzeria Zagato, which dates to the early 1960s, the two Vanquish variants would soon be followed by the addition of a speedster and shooting brake.

The announcement marked the first time that the two companies would produce a family of four complementary, yet highly differentiated, body styles for the same model. The excitement surrounding the announcement led several eager buyers to place orders for one of each.

All four versions of the Vanquish Zagato were built on the V-12 Vanquish S platform, which includes a 580 bhp naturally aspirated V-12 engine mated to the smooth-shifting, eight-speed, Touchtronic III transmission. Adaptive suspension damping was fine-tuned for each body style, resulting in an optimal, custom-tailored driving experience. Limited production of the Vanquish Zagato was set at 99 coupes, 99 Volantes, 28 speedsters, and 99 shooting brakes.

In addition to styling cues that draw from Aston Martin’s supercars, the Volante features a more sinuous beltline, particularly toward the rear of the vehicle, where the sloped coupe roof has been replaced by a rear deck, which merges into the trunk lid and conceals the convertible top. With the top down, the Volante has all the hallmarks of a classic open-air Italian roadster.

With the distinction of being the first of only 99 examples built, this Vanquish Zagato Volante exemplifies Aston Martin exclusivity.

Working directly with the exclusive “Q by Aston Martin” division, Zagato endeavored to create a host of special options for the Volante’s exterior and cabin, including this car’s elegant Orient Blue paint finish and full Centenary Saddle Tan leather upholstery. The addition of bespoke seats, a walnut instrument fascia, and a steering wheel shared with the Aston Martin One-77 supercar are among the many factory options that make this particular Zagato Volante unique. These rare options added nearly $40,000 to this car’s already impressive $850,000-plus MSRP.

Well cared-for and sparingly driven, with just two collector owners and less than 1,610 miles at the time of cataloguing, this Vanquish Zagato Volante remains a pristine example of a modern day, coachbuilt supercar. Built specifically to maintain their status of “the rarest of the rare,” this offering presents a unique opportunity for collectors of Aston Martin and those who appreciate Zagato’s legacy of avant-garde Italian design.
