Do you recognise this? You think; what a courageous choice they made when composing the specifications of a car, but it does work. That is exactly what the first owner did with this car. A Citroën DS19 Cabriolet was already quite an outstanding choice for an American. The blue exterior was not particularly exceptional, the turquoise interior leather trim was quite daring, it is however perfectly suited to the car’s quirky nature. This car was originally supplied to the States before arriving in the Netherlands in 1997. The car has been fully restored in the recent past and finds itself in absolutely prime condition. Not only does it look perfect it is also a matching numbers and colours car with a Chapron certificate. This in other words is an original supplied Citroën DS19 Chapron Cabriolet.

The bodywork is perfect. The nice and thin panelwork aligns neatly. In 2021 a new hood was made by a Citroën specialist which looks a treat as well as fits perfectly. The hood is easy to operate and comes complete with its tonneau cover. During the restoration the car was resprayed in her original Royal Blue finish. The paintwork was done to a high standard and has kept its lustre. During the latter stage of the restoration, a lot of the brightwork was replaced, defining the stunning presence of this elegant cabriolet. The car has retained its original wheels with fine chrome hubcaps and good, correctly sized quality tyres.

Inside everything was reupholstered together with the hood using the original colour scheme. It is commendable the owner decided to keep to the original colour scheme. It would have been so much easier to have chosen boring black or beige leather, but then that would just have been wrong. This was how the first owner had intended it and it is lovely to see this replicated. It made this car stand out. Clearly, experts worked their magic. There is the use of high-quality leather, worked with a keen eye to the original detail. The overall effect is a very appealing total picture. The lovely leather is complimented by fresh fitted high quality carpets. The instrument cluster and switching gear are in great shape and totally original. Naturally, everything works properly as it should.

The mechanical side was largely taken in hand during the restoration process. The engine and transmission had been subject to a major overhaul and still function exactly as intended. The car has remained an original being a matching numbers Citroën DS. The complete suspension system and brakes were fully renovated during the latter stages of the restoration and are in an immaculate state. The DS 19 drives superbly thanks to its semi-automatic transmission and supremely comfortable suspension, it is simply a delightful car to tour in.

The restoration and mechanical aspects have all been wonderfully well documented with invoices and photos. The aforementioned Chapron certificate is included as are build papers as well as general information about the car. In short, this is a stunning, well documented Citroën DS19 Chapron in excellent condition. It is French grandeur in optima forma.
