The frog eye
The Austin-Healey Sprite is a roadster of the British automobile brand Austin-Healey.
The Sprite was introduced by the British Motor Corporation in 1958 and built in four model series until 1971.
The Mark I series was nicknamed “Frogeye” (“frog eye”) in Europe and “Bugeye” in the USA because of the arrangement of the headlights.
With his 650 kg “lightweight” this little roadster is nowadays still a sporty driver.
Check the walkaroundvideo for a little impression:
This Austin Healey Sprite MK1 has left the factory in 1961 as a left hand driver.
It shows up in a brilliant optical and technical condition.
The last owner bought in 1974 at the Nürburgring direct from THE designer of the Recaro seats.
From that day on in 1974 he documentated almost everything during the last almost 50 years, with collecting bills, and writing the “drivers book”.
The original hood, made of steel, comes with the car, because nowadays there is a hood made of GFK mounted for weight reasons.
The engine starts right up, runs smoothy and sporty and driving this sprite is a pure pleasure. The gearbox shifts precisely and the brakes do their perfect job. You also notice while driving that this whole chassis is tight and not worn out as usually.
The softtop is in very good condition and as well the hardtop is still with the car.
There probably is no other MK1 in the market showing such transparence over the last decades.
Convince yourself with the pictures below.
