Description
The Luce was premiered by Mazda as a new sedan car in 1966. Designed by Bertone in Italy, the delicate pillars and body lines were designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro who was a part of Bertone at the time. The flat deck design is representative of Giugiaro’s time at Bertone.
The interior houses a twin-lens meter installed on the instrument panel, based on a straight line. It creates a simple style similar to the exterior. In addition, a third seat was added to the front, making the total capacity 6 passengers, which was rare at the time. There are 3 models of the Luce; the AT Super Drive, Deluxe and the Standard. The engine adopted a 1.5L straight 4SOHC single cab which had a maximum output of 78 horsepower and a maximum torque of 11.8kgm.
Although the Luce’s sales were not the best in Japan, it was immensely popular in Europe because of its elegant styling and practicality. For nearly 30 years, the Luce continued as Mazda’s flagship sedan.
This particular model is a late Deluxe model. The exterior has deteriorated over time and some dents can be seen at the bottom of the front bumper. The interior is in great condition, with few signs of wear on the seats and instrument panels. Full recommissioning is required before the car can run. The odometer displays 87,247km.
