By the mid-1970s the Porsche 911 had already reached legendary status, both on and of the track, and since the car‘s launch in 1965 the Stuttgart factory‘s engineers had found ways to squeeze more power from the two to three litre flat six cylinder engines. During this time the 911‘s dramatic development had much to do with the frantic racing programme that was used to expand the range; no other car can claim such a linear heritage to racing as the 911. The road cars benefited as well as the race cars of this era, hailing a new dawn in motoring and perhaps one of the most famous marriages in modern sports car production, that of the Porsche 911 and the turbocharger.
