Description
The Talbot-Lago T-15 LB, also known as the Lago Baby, closely resembled its more powerful, elder sibling, the Record, but on closer inspection, the Lago Baby sedan was slightly shorter by just 20 cm. It was powered by a 2,690 cc engine with four cylinders, which produced an output of 120 hp or 15 CV (Cheval Fiscal). While many of these motorcars were coached as a four-door sedan or a two-door open tourer, there were exceptions as this attractive two-door-bodied example demonstrates.
Chassis 121587 is a rare example coached by Henri Chapron Carrossier of Paris. The motorcar was acquired by Fritz Schlumpf for his renowned collection of over 450 cars in North Eastern France, but was confiscated by the French government in 1977. Schlumpf’s widow, Arlette, entered into a 22-year legal battle with the state to have the cars returned to her family. Eventually, 62 cars were released, and became known as the Reserve Collection. In 2009, the entire group of 62 cars was acquired by Peter Mullin, including this T-15 LB.
This car has resided in prestigious collections for much of its life and deserves to be preserved as an important historical artifact as the final swan song of a respected and celebrated marque. It is an exceptionally well-preserved example retaining a considerable amount of its original finishes such as portions of the paint, interior, chrome, and glass.
