In 1971, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow H.J. Mulliner Park Ward Drophead was aptly renamed Corniche, a French term describing a coastal road. Variants of the model would continue in production for the next 24 years, making the Corniche one of the most popular and successful offerings in its maker’s unparalleled history.

This beautifully presented Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible from 1974 was first sold in August 1975 to Patricia Wessel, of Rocky River, Ohio, and her name still appears on the car’s embossed ID card within the original manual set. In 1989, the Corniche was sold via a short-term owner to Cynthia Conroy, a retired actress living in an upscale district of Los Angeles. In 1997, the Rolls-Royce was acquired by the father of the consignor as a gift for his wife, replacing a Lincoln sedan that reportedly never fit her vivacious personality. The consignor states that his mother’s beloved Rolls-Royce received any maintenance required, and that she and her Corinthian Blue Corniche were a common sight on Sunset Boulevard between their home and nearby Beverly Hills. Following his mother’s passing in 2011, the consignor and his sister continued to maintain the Corniche in the family stable of cars.

Today, the Corniche continues to present exceptionally well, with its aged Connolly hides displaying an inviting patina. The Everflex folding top fits snugly, the book-matched interior veneers are elegant as ever and its original 8-track tape player remains in place. Maintenance and ownership records on file date back to its initial sale and document its catalogued mileage of less than 43,000. This cossetted Rolls-Royce, a true icon of its day, stands ready to impress its next caretaker.
