Description
"Based in Queens Park, West London between 1921 and 1948 and originally known as Gaisford and Warboys, the Lancefield Coachworks Ltd was a builder of bespoke car bodies. Their speciality was introducing sporting elements into what was considered to be ground breaking designs. The company name was derived from the companies early site of Lancefield Street. During World War II the coachbuilders switched their business to building aircraft components and it was to this industry they returned in 1948.
It is thought that Lancefield only coachbuilt 25 Rolls-Royce 20/25’s from new, making this model extremely rare. This example certainly endorses the company tradition of streamlined design with its low roof line, polished waist rail and beautiful 'trouser crease' front wings, rear luggage trunk and large sunroof. This Rolls-Royce presents extremely well in black and grey paintwork with grey leather to the front and fawn Bedford cord to the rear.
The previous owner of this handsome saloon was an ex-Concorde captain. During his 37 year tenure the car benefitted from a complete engine rebuild by David Haines, as well as a rebuild of the dynamo, the starter, the magneto, the coil and the Autovac. The comprehensive list of works include a re-coring of the radiator, re-chroming of the bumpers a full rewiring and retrimming. This impressive saloon is also fitted with an external cartridge oil filter and overdrive.
A large history file with invoices and photographs accompanies the car along with accessories that includes a bottle jack, wheel spanner, starting handle, copper mallet and a Rolls-Royce tool box with assorted spanners and tools. This very well cared for car is presented to auction with a V5 registration document, a drivers handbook, maintenance manuals and service literature. This MoT test exempt Rolls-Royce is a stunning example of this rare model. It is pleasing to think that when this 20/25 was built Henry Royce was still alive, I am sure that if the great man saw JJ 4098 today he would be pleased as well."
