The Renault Safrane, which was introduced in 1992 as the replacement of the 25, had the heavy responsibility of ensuring the survival of Renault’s top of the range cars in a highly competitive market segment. To compete with the best German rivals, Renault decided to offer an even more exclusive version of its big saloon and in 1993 presented the 4-wheel drive Biturbo model. Under the bonnet was the faithful PRV V6 engine, onto which had been grafted two KKK turbos, each operating at 0.5 bar pressure. The result was a well equipped and notably comfortable family saloon with outstanding road-holding, whose 268 bhp engine was both flexible and powerful. She broke all the records by being the most expensive, the most powerful and also the most exclusive (only 806 made) series production model ever built by Renault.
The car that we are offering was first registered in February 1996 and comes with all service records and invoices since she was new. She was originally sold and maintained by the concessionaire Renault Lamirault Automobiles in Chartres. The current owner acquired her in 2001 and continued until the present to have the car regularly serviced by the same concessionaire. There is an invoice for a major service carried out in June 2017 and including new timing drive-belts and the replacement of all fluids and filters. It is nowadays difficult to find one of these vehicles in good condition and with a regular service history. As this is the most exclusive Baccara version, standard fittings included all the comfort equipment available and that time. The leather upholstery is in good condition and all the fittings function correctly. A road test showed it to be a sound car, with the flexibility of the V6 engine and the power of the turbos giving an ease of use in line with modern standards
