The 912 was one of Porsche’s all-time popular models due to its agility, efficiency, and performance. Of the 34,000 912s produced between 1965 and 1969, fewer than 2,600 were Targas, and this example is one of very few remaining in fine, unrestored condition.

Delivered on August 29, 1969, in Northern California, this handsome 912 was trimmed in burgundy with a black leather interior. In 1971, the original owner sold the Targa to Spencer Aust of Los Gatos, California, on the strict condition that he be contacted first if Mr. Aust ever decided to sell. Thirty years later, Mr. Aust called the original owner as promised, who repurchased the car with 85,852 miles on the clock. It had been meticulously maintained and, the consignor attests, was never driven in the rain. In 2007, at 89,920 miles, the car underwent a mechanical overhaul. The engine was rebuilt with a big-bore kit (1,720 cc) and a high-performance, high-lift, long-duration camshaft; the crankshaft was magnafluxed and polished. Retractable seat belts were installed and the original seats and carpets were covered – not replaced. The car comes with its original tool kit, numerous receipts, certificate of authenticity, service records, and published articles, plus a heartwarming photographically chronicled history.
