Description

Almost 45 years have passed since Porsche affixed the RS badge – shorthand for RennSport, or “racing sport” – to the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7, a track-focused homologation special allowing Porsche to compete in the precursor to today’s FIA GT racing series.

Utilizing a similar formula, the RS nomenclature reappeared on the 996- generation GT3 in 2003, with performance gains made through an uprated engine, weight-saving measures, stiffer suspension, and aggressive aerodynamics. In 2006, Porsche offered an RS version of the 997 GT3.

The introduction of a second-generation 997 GT3 RS in 2010 heralded an enlarged 3.8-liter “Mezger” flat six with lighter internals helping it spin faster to an 8,500 rpm redline and delivering 450 hp. Mated to a sublime six-speed manual gearbox, the GT3 RS was capable of 0–60 mph in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 196 mph. Dynamic engine mounts that adapted to changes in road surface and driving style sharpened handling, while a wider rear track and revised bodywork enhanced cornering grip, downforce, and stability. Held in high esteem by the automotive journalism world, it was described as “the best driver’s 911 yet.”

Unlike the host of gray, black, and white cars, this 2011 GT3 RS 3.8 is one of only 46 paint-to-sample cars destined for the North American market, and one of two finished in brilliant RS Green. With a sticker price of $156,880, it was optioned with a black full-leather interior, sound package plus , Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), sun visors trimmed in Alcantara, painted wheels, mirror bases, headlight cleaner covers painted in the RS Green body color, and stripe and model designation delete.

Making this example even more remarkable is the fact that it has been driven less than 30 miles from new, and presents in as-delivered condition, down to the original protective plastic on the door sills. The first owner purchased the GT3 RS in 2011 from Cascade Porsche in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. In 2014, a Pennsylvania-based collector acquired it and commissioned mandated service work at Porsche Wyoming Valley in Larksville, Pennsylvania. In 2016, the car was acquired by its current owner, but has remained mostly in storage, having traveled just three additional miles. It is offered today with manuals, keys, window sticker, receipts, Porsche COA, and CARFAX Vehicle History Report.

With almost all 612 units of North American production allocated before the first car was completed, this car’s desirability is surpassed only by its transcendent performance and individual appearance. For the discerning collector, this bold RS Green GT3 RS 3.8 offers the unusual opportunity to own a unique example of one of Porsche’s most revered 911 models in pristine condition.
