Launched in 1997, the new Porsche 911 type 996 replaced the very desirable 993, which was the last model to be fitted with the famous air-cooled flat-six engine. This new generation of the 911 represented a major break with the traditional specifications and design philosophy and it incorporated many innovations. The engine was now water-cooled and one of the consequences of this was that the rear of the car needed to become considerably more voluminous. The traditional round headlights were dropped, in order to cut costs, and replaced by units shared with the Boxter. These important changes caused much discussion in the 911 community and even if the new 996 was resented by many, it gradually gained a following and its sales rose 40% higher than those of its predecessor. The increased dimensions and the shape of this new generation ended up by making the 993 look old fashioned. 18 cm longer and 3 cm wider, this 911 had much more interior space and the dashboard, also shared with the Boxter, was considerably more ergonomic. The new 3387 cc flat-six produced 300 bhp at 6800 rpm and enabled the car to cover a kilometer from a standing start in less than 25 seconds. In 2000, Porsche brought out a limited series of its 911 Carrera 4. Only 911 units will come and 20 will be destined for the French market.
This is one of the 20 copies we are offering for sale. On the mechanical side, nothing distinguishes the Millenium version from the rest of the production, but it's an over-equipped version offered by the manufacturer with, among other standard equipment, 18'' Turbo Look chrome wheels, a GPS, an onboard phone, a sunroof and a cruise control. This 911 Carrera 4 Millenium was delivered new by the Porsche dealer Jean Egreteaud in Bordeaux on December 18, 1999 for the modest sum of 645 462 francs as indicated on the original delivery note. In the passenger compartment is the Limited Edition 911 / 073 badge integrated on the center console. With just over 110,000 kilometers on the odometer, the interior is in good condition. All the comfort equipment is working, and the car is best appreciated behind the wheel. Externally, the rims have just been restored and the bodywork was polished just after our photo shoot. The steering triangles have just been changed and the 120,000 km revision will be done before the sale. The presence of all the original books testifies to a regular mechanical follow-up, mainly in the Porsche network or at the brand's specialists workshops. If there were a 996 to collect before anyone else, the Millenium would certainly be the most affordable of all...
