About this Collectable

The Porsche 964 Turbo is the successor to the legendary 930 Turbo. More modern, but still with the brutal, almost aggressive looks and rear-wheel drive only. This particular car was delivered in the Netherlands and is finished in 'Bad Boys-spec': black with the Speedline rims of the 3.6 model.

The first generation 911 Turbo was famous as well as infamous. The car received its sinister nickname 'Widow Maker' for a reason. The successor to the 930 Turbo was less unpredictable, but the 964 Turbo is still a car that should be treated with respect.

The 964 Turbo has the same 3.3 engine as the 930. The engine was upgraded, however, increasing power from 300 hp to 320 hp and the torque from 412 Nm to 450 Nm. According to the factory specification, the 964 Turbo reached 100 km/h in 5,0 seconds, but in real-life tests, it turned out to be even faster.

In contrast to the later 911 Turbos, which are all AWD, this 964 is still an old school 911 Turbo. That means it's purely rear-wheel drive. Therefore, this 911 still hasn't completely lost its Widow Maker character, although the turbo gap is less profound and the car is equipped with ABS.

Even before you get in, the 964 commands respect with its impressive looks. The bulking wide wheel arches and the 'whale tail' spoiler make this is real head-turner. Although it's not a 3.6, this example looks just like the one used in the Bad Boys movie. It is finished in black and fitted with the sought-after 3.6 Speedline rims, combined with red brake calipers.

This is a 964 Turbo that was delivered new to the Netherlands, where it's currently with it's third owner. The history is known, the known 964 Turbo issues have been taken care of and at 160.000 km the engine and gearbox have received a partial revision. A rare opportunity to own this desirable Porsche Collectable.

Our opinion

A car that seems to go fast even when standing still, the 964 Turbo. A Porsche with an old-fashioned Turbo gap, which you easily get used to, to be honest. Just a little anticipation, step on the pedal, 1-2-3.... go! The Widow Maker stories give the old 911 Turbo models almost a kind of hero status, but with the much better tyres of today, the sudden overtaking effect is not as bad as it used to be.

The owner first had a 930 Turbo, but then went for the 964 Turbo. The 930 Turbo may be the granddaddy of them all, but we know from our own experience that it has some rough edges as well. An old-fashioned Turbo is still pretty damn quick, often approaches a corner faster than you think so ABS is certainly welcome in wet conditions. So we don't blame him. The 964 is just a bit more refined, but still wonderfully old school. Both in terms of driving experience and looks. And personally we are fans of the design. Just a bit more modern, more rounded, especially in this Bad Boys guise. The content of the film was not very substantial, so this car must have been the reason for its success.

This one may not be 100% original because of the various improvements, but you have to admit: you can't say no to the Speedline rims of the 3.6. If you are looking for a 964 Turbo to actually enjoy and drive, then this is your car.

Remarks

There are only some small signs of use, documented on thecollectables.nl:
Slight damage on rear bumper, right
Minor damage to rims at rear right and front left
Cracks in the paint on the rear bumper next to exhaust on right side
The car was partially resprayed in September 2020 (the front, rear bumper and the sides below the window line). In addition, rust spots under the windscreen and in the sills were taken care of. The front is protected with stone chipping film.

Service history

The first two owners have always maintained the car at the dealer and in recent years the maintenance has been entrusted to Porsche specialist Car Service Visser in Hilversum. The most important points from the recent maintenance history are:
17 May 2022 - 195.156 km - Porsche-specialist Car Service Visser: warm up regulator replaced, airco recharged
17 June 2021 - 188.896 km - Car Service Visser: major service, brake pads replaced, valves set, spark plugs replaced, new battery, oil change, air conditioning recharged,
31 July 2020 - 182.367 km - Porsche Centre Twente: all body rubbers replaced, rear right light replaced, new battery, wheel bearing front right replaced, among other things
In 2009, at 166.264 km, official Porsche dealer Porsche Centrum Twente performed a partial overhaul of the engine (including cylinder head and pistons) and gearbox, costing €14.183.
