Description
Porsche’s 356 B represented substantial improvements over previous models, and featured the new T5 body with recontoured fenders, higher bumpers, and revised interior. In Cabriolet form, the 356 B is a civilized and exhilarating way to enjoy the traditional Porsche values of performance, quality, and reliability – with all the allure of an open-top sports car.
The example offered here has further enhanced those sporting traits with the fitment of a period-correct, high-performance Super 90 engine. Producing an estimated 90 bhp, it offers a significant improvement to the 356’s driveability. The car is finished in lustrous black paint complemented by a tan interior, and it has been lovingly housed in The James G. Hascall Collection’s climate-controlled facility since 2005. Receipts on file document cosmetic and mechanical work performed during Mr. Hascall’s ownership, including an engine rebuild by Porsche specialists German Tech of Largo, Florida.
Constructed in December 1959, this car was identified incorrectly on its Certificate of Authenticity as a 1959 model; per Porsche’s own documentation, the 356 B was produced only as a 1960 model. As such it is titled as a 1960. Combining all the charm of the earlier cars with the creature comforts of the “B” series, this early T5 Cabriolet offers a striking package made more appealing with its Super 90 engine. Beautifully presented, this 356 B Cabriolet offers a pitch-perfect vision of what a classic Porsche sports car should be.
