Where has the time gone when you simply would walk into a dealership, chose your chassis, your engine and transmission to then incorporate that package into a brilliant body? Totally according the customers taste of course. This car was in very long time ownership of the last person, who restored this car to a very high standard. This Packard is picture perfect. The Packard has a currently unimaginable straight 8-cylinder engine producing 120 Ps, the summit of luxury way back then.

The bodywork is courtesy of coach builders Rollston. It used to be quite an involved process to have the body design completely follow the customer’s wishes. This example has a personalised Town Car body. As mentioned this car was sympathetically restored to a very high standard. Isn’t it fantastic to see these cars being preserved for future generations? The bodywork is spot on with fine panelwork. The vinyl roof covering was neatly and correctly applied. The bumpers were re-chromed during the restoration and look great. The car stands on steel rims with original hubcaps, shod in correctly sized white wall tyres. The chauffeur can sit on the open as well as having the opportunity to be under cover. The chauffeur’s roof is also in very good shape with a correct fit.

The reupholstered interior trim looks fine. The most noticeable feature are the front seat covering of blue and tan leather. The tan leather in the middle of the seats is repeated to great effect in the steering wheel covering. Another remarkable feature are the back hinging doors, as was then customary with proper luxury car. The dashboard has original and stylish gauges. The dashboard itself has fine wooden inlay. The car is also fitted with blue carpets and rubber mats that all fit to perfection.. The star of the show is of course the rear passenger area. This car is truly a limousine, with all of the rear passenger needs catered for. The rear bench seat was recovered in fine grey leather and is in keeping with the rest of the refined interior. The seats allow for a most regal recline with a fold-away mirror for use if required. Passengers also have to use of a

fold-away foot stool for that little bit of additional comfort. The passenger compartment can be isolated form the chauffeur’s ears.

The car’s overhauled mechanics are still in very good order. The straight 8 engine delivering 120 Ps is attached to a 3-speed transmission. The engine gets the large limousine effortlessly on its way and able to keep up with modern traffic. The suspension and brakes also work flawlessly. The road handling is nothing short of very comfortable.

The Packard One-Twenty is in every guise an incredibly rare car. This Rollston Town Car is quite likely the last surviving example. A beautiful Packard One-Twenty with brilliant coachwork.
