Reliable engine and good performance
Unique appearance and patina

The British car maker BMC had high hopes for its new model, presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955. Small sports roadsters were in vogue and competition was fierce. The story goes that it was the success of Jaguar’s XK 120 that inspired the designers of the MG A to propose a car with modern, flowing lines. It should not be forgotten that an MG took part in the 1951 Le Mans 24 Hours race fitted with a body by Syd Enever; it was the first draft of the MG A which would come out three years later. BMC was in the midst of its development and so under the bonnet of the roadster there was an all-new 1500 engine produced by the new make.
A few months after it was introduced, the manufacturer entered three cars in the famous race at Le Mans. The new model, which displayed its sporty character from the outset, met with an enthusiastic reception. The rest is history and the little roadster went on to enjoy worldwide success, especially in the USA.

The model which we are offering for sale is a 1500 Roadster first registered in January 1959. It was completely restored in 2011 and then given a patina to the liking of its current owner, a lover of pre-war sports cars with their inimitable patina. It was modified in this way so that he could enjoy drives with the wind in his hair and to take part in several trips for classic cars in the Loire Valley. The engine is fed by a Weber twin-barrel carburettor, while the exhaust is a magnificent custom-made stainless steel system. Finished in Glacier Blue (code ‘L’ in its chassis number), this little MG has an utterly charming appearance, complete with its two Brooklands-style wind deflectors. The car is in perfect mechanical order and its current owner has spared no expense to have a car to his taste. A major service was carried out in 2016, including the complete overhaul of the wiring harness.
On test, the car proved light, agile and well sprung. The driving position is pleasant, thanks to the custom-made bucket seats.
Ready to take to the road, and with a safety inspection dating from less than six months ago, this thrilling machine will delight its future owner.
