Mercedes is known for the quality and luxury of its products and the R107 (3rd generation SL, 2-seater convertible) is living proof of that. This model (as a convertible) remained in production for no less than 18 years, amazing.
The American market was extremely important to the Germans and under the name 'no substitute for cubic inches, the R107 was equipped with V8 engines. The 'smallest' V8, the 350, was replaced in 1981 by the 380, a light-alloy 3.8 liter V8 (M116E38) that delivered 218 hp and 305 Nm. Mercedes produced a total of 53200 copies.
Our 380SL received its first registration in 1982 in America and has resided in the Netherlands since 2011. The SL was ostensibly cherished because today it is in considerably original condition with the accompanying signs of wear from the past 40 years. On average, the car was driven only 2000 miles per year (only 84765 Miles in total), which is 'peanuts' for a car of this quality. Inquire with Daimler tells us that the car is in its original color Astral Silver (735U) in combination with the original leather Napa Grey/Orion Gray (238A) interior. The information from Daimler also confirms that the car has its original engine and is, therefore 'matching numbers.
Invoices accompanying the car prove that maintenance has never been cut and that only Mercedes Benz was allowed to carry out the maintenance itself or to supply the parts. Partly because of this, the car drives and functions more than fine. The body is in very good condition but does have some signs of use which is logical of course. The car stands on the beautiful 'channel cover' rims that look as good as new and the chrome work also looks very neat for its age. Will this be your new daily driver?
