The 190 E was a small revolution for Mercedes who, at the dawn of the 80s, extended its range with a "small car". Launched in September 1982, it was resolutely modern yet totally in line with the styling trend. With the Baby-benz, Mercedes sought to rejuvenate its image, to reach a new clientele, certainly, but also to recover a touch of sportiness that was missing from the brand. Robust, serious, luxurious and even sporty: it was by presenting the 190 E 2.3-16 at the 1983 Frankfurt Motor Show that Mercedes initiated the concept of the sporty family sedan. At that time, Daimler-Benz knew how to build big torque engines, but lacked the experience to build a small, sporty and raging engine. The 190 E 2.3-16 was a different style. And for this, Mercedes called in the English tuner Cosworth! Unbelievable when you think that AMG was so close to the brand! In 1988 the more accomplished 195 HP 2.5 16 version really declared war on a certain BMW M3.
The version we are interested in these pages is a 2.5 16 valves put into circulation on the 2 of February 1989 in Bayonne, France, and will remain there until 1992 when the current owner bought the car. It has the original sunroof and the famous Getrag gearbox. It then has 59 250 km on the odometer. Since its purchase, Mr M has always maintained his car very well, as attested by the maintenance book, invoices and technical inspections. The paintwork is still a beautiful shine, the interior is original and the very elegant semi leather and fabric has no wear and tear. The odometer shows an original mileage of 98,212 km. The last technical inspection was carried out on 29 March 2017 and was free of defects. The car has been driven very little for three years but works very well as the test revealed. However, it will be good to have the car serviced before taking it back to the road.
