Apart from the Lotus Cortina, Lotus cars had been mainly concerned with two seater sports cars. The Elan +2 represented a more mature, family orientated version of the Elan and a definite move up-market. The idea was to squeeze in an extra passenger or extra luggage. A new steel backbone chassis was developed along similar lines to the Elan but was slightly larger. Braking was by Elan-type disc, but for the first time for a Lotus a brake servo was fitted. For power Lotus stuck with the twin cam engine in 118 bhp form with twin Weber carburettors. Top speed was in excess over 120mph and 0-60 dash was reached in 8 seconds. Typical to Lotus cars, the handling was amazing with the wider track making it easy to hustle along twisty B-roads. Another significant step for Lotus with this model was that it was the first Lotus car to be offered only in fully built guise
This Elan plus 2 was bought by its current owner
