Description
Chassis 06111432 was built in April 1950, one of the last archetypal lights behind the grill model. It was supplied through a dealer called Green and Whincup ltd (it still has the plaque on the bulkhead), in Newbury, Berkshire. It has stayed in the surrounding area for probably all it's life.
There is a green buff log book with a couple of owners from the 70’s and then it was owned in the 80’s by a Doctor for some 35 years before it was bought back by the previous owner in 2017. He embarked on a comprehensive refurbishment programme which included:
Starter motor rebuild – with new cushion drive
Full carburettor overhaul, replace air cleaner elbow.
New fuel tank, fuel tank guard, sediment bowl, fuel lines, new pick up filter.
New spark plugs, plug caps, HT leads, over haul distributor
Recore and overhaul radiator, sandblast repair and paint cowl.
Fit new water pump, radiator hoses
Fit new oil filter, flush engine and change oil
Bulkhead repair on panel below windscreen
Overhaul steering box, new steering column gaiter, inspect steering relay.
Full rebuild on r/hand front swivel hub
Brakes, all new wheel cylinders, fit new master cylinder
Fit 2 shock absorbers, new rubber mounts
Bleed brakes
Seats, new seat backs
Floor, make new drivers floor panel
Exhaust, fit new rear exhaust mount to shock absorber
Remove exhaust manifold, extract studs from manifold and fit new ones. Fit all new gaskets
Fit new bonnet rest strip
Repair transfer box linkage
Instrument panel overhaul and repaint.
The chassis I believe is original, the rear cross member has been replaced and there are obvious signs of repair on the chassis but not a mass of patchwork by any means. In places it looks like the original green paint on the chassis. The engine has a plaque on the side of the block saying that it is a ‘factory rebuilt unit’. It drives very well indeed and pulls well, the gearbox is smooth and the brakes pull straight and firm.
It is not a ‘concours’ example but has a real feel of something that’s been loved and used which in my opinion is a ringing endorsement!
