Description
Perhaps the finest 4.2 Covered Headlight version in existence.
The Jaguar XK-E changed the way the world thought of sports cars. The long bonnet, tight rear and lines that evolved directly from the Le Mans-winning C-type and D-type was stunning when it was introduced in 1961, and still is today more than half a century later. Hard to fathom that much time has passed.
The covered headlight Series 1 was and always will be the most desirable of production E-types, particularly the later Series 1 cars that retained the elegance of the original design together with ongoing refinements not the least of which was the 4.2-liter engine and a lowered rear-axle ratio for more relaxed high-speed cruising. The example offered at our 2014 Monterey sale is perhaps the finest 4.2 in existence.
This 62,000 mile XK-E, three owners from new, has undergone an exhaustive, fully documented five year restoration that saw every component, every nut and bolt completely disassembled, refinished and reassembled to the highest standard. That standard has been affirmed by an extraordinary record of Jaguar Club of North America judging awards, including 11 First Place Awards, three-times judged 100 points, and the award as the 2013 JCNA National Champion.
