Exceptional V12 engine
The XJ saloon is an iconic model from the English manufacturer Jaguar. Presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1968, it was fitted with a 2.8 or 4.2-litre 6-cylinder engine from the legendary series of XK engines. In July 1972, the V12 already fitted to the E-Type was installed in the XJ, giving rise to the amazing XJ12 version. It was the fastest saloon in the world at the time, with a top speed of close to 150 mph. In September 1973, the saloon received a comprehensive facelift when the Series 2 appeared. It had a more modern look, with a shallower radiator grille, higher wraparound bumpers and wider wings. In 1975, fuel injection made its debut on the V12 models. The Series 3 was introduced in March 1979, with its body completely restyled by Pininfarina. It had larger window areas, a more steeply raked windscreen and flush-mounted door handles … From 1986 onwards, the XJ12 was offered in Europe in two versions, branded the Jaguar Sovereign and Daimler Double-Six, the latter in effect continuing the Vanden Plas level of trim. Its career came to an end in 1992 with the introduction of the XJ81 saloon.
The XJ12 which we are offering for sale is a Series 3 saloon from the 1989 model year, finished in midnight blue with beige leather upholstery and carpets. With its second owner from 1996–2009, its current keeper, a discerning enthusiast, purchased it at auction in Paris nearly 10 years ago. It is now in very good cosmetic and mechanical condition. The midnight blue paintwork has a magnificent shine, while the interior is testimony to the low mileage which the car has covered. The leather upholstery remains taut and shows no signs of tears. The engine runs beautifully and our road test was highly successful. The V12 can scarcely be heard at tick-over and is extremely smooth to drive.
With an attractive price estimate for such a handsome saloon, this is surely an opportunity to acquire a Jaguar XJ12 in very good condition.
