The classic first generation Thunderbird entered its final year of production in 1957, and many enthusiasts consider these models to be the best of the series. Ford stated, in regards to the Thunderbird that “For men and women that treat driving as an art, the Thunderbird is a fine instrument that gives full range to their capabilities. Precise steering, tenacious roadholding, lightning acceleration, long-range cruising speed at normal engine rpm’s, brawny brakes that are light underfoot…what more could you want in a high performance car except, perhaps, comfort and convenience? Of course the Thunderbird stands alone on both these counts.”
Styling was freshened with an updated grille, along with a new rear end treatment that featured a pair of small and jaunty fins, which were termed “high-canted fenders” by Ford. Both storage space and handling were considerably improved with a lengthened rear section, which allowed the spare tire to be relocated to the trunk. No less than ten standard exterior colors were available, with many others available by special order.
Colonial White was the factory name, and this example also has tasteful black and white interior with a power bench seat. The Ford is driven by a 292-cid, 212-hp V-8 engine that is paired with an automatic transmission. Other features include the removable hardtop, AM radio, padded dash, rear fender skirts, factory hubcaps, whitewall tires; power steering and brakes. The brakes are reported as “period-correct disc brake conversion.” It is also stated that the Thunderbird is presented in “original condition.”
