In October 1964, the fourth-generation 'F-Series' made its début with a brand new chassis which ultimately remained unchanged until 1979. Replacing the rudimentary straight-axle in the front was an all-new independent "Twin I-Beam" suspension with coil springs on two-wheel-drive trucks. </div><div>Offered here is beautifully executed 1966 Ford F350 ‘Race Car Hauler’ that pays homage to the sixties legend Carroll Shelby and recreates the period when it was ‘de rigour’ to haul your racing car around America from track to track with a ‘hauler’ from the same stable as your racer.</div><div>Created, some five years ago, by a well-respected coachbuilder at the request of a customer who was keen to transport his immaculate competition cars around the UK with real 'Shelby' style and, although it had to look the part, it also needed to be completely practical.   The beauty of this creation is that it uses running gear from the nineties making the whole experience a joy. The engine is a fuel-injected Ford 5.8 from 1996 running with a modern ECU and mated to an automatic gearbox. The driving experience is further enhanced with cruise control and discs all round to provide adequate stopping power when fully loaded. The driver's cabin has a three seater bench seat. The loading process has been designed to cope with low race vehicles and the ramps are a clever design formed in composite which makes them light and strong. The remotely controlled electric winch is more than adequate to cope with a large American race car. The sleeping compartment consists of two ‘jump seats’ which fold up and the galley area has a wash basin. On either side of the interior is a raised bunk area making overnight stays possible. It’s a mixture of period contemporary with polished chequer plate and ‘Diner’ style black and white tile effect and fully carpeted in the bunk areas. The overall effect is very pleasing and finished to the same standards as the rest of the vehicle. The truck is superbly presented in Ford White with racing stripes, coach-lines, and Carroll Shelby graphics in period blue.</div><div>This vehicle is a favourite at Goodwood where period style vehicle transporters get the ‘nod’ … what a lovely versatile machine to enjoy your racing and return to the Motor Home Paddock and soak up that unique Goodwood atmosphere before retiring to your own sanctuary! And when it's time to go home there's no messing around checking out of hotels and hooking up trailers - just make yourself a coffee, jump in, and go.</div></div><div><br /></div>
