Description
"Launched on 20th September 1962, the Ford Cortina had eye-catching modern styling. It was originally branded as the Ford Consul Cortina until a modest facelift in 1964, after which, it was sold simply as the Cortina but with four trim levels; Standard, Deluxe, Super and GT. The GT was the most powerful of the trio and as such, is much sought after today.
The example that we are delighted to offer was manufactured in lefthand drive format at the Dagenham plant in England during June 1966. This GT has spent a large part of its life in Switzerland and was repatriated and registered in the UK on 1stSeptember 2016. We are informed that a nut and bolt rebuild was carried out during 2002, the coachwork remaining in first class condition today, both on the topsides and undersides. This GT has the GT1500 engine built by Burton Racing, with a big valve cylinder head, Kent 244 camshaft and was blue-printed and balanced. Fuel is supplied via the twin 40 Weber carburettors whilst the exhaust gases are extracted through a competition exhaust that, we think, sounds fantastic. The engine was refurbished less than 1,000 miles ago, being fully stripped, de-coked, polished and fitted with new piston rings. The braking system is fitted with Brembo discs, Girling pistons and fast road brake pads. The suspension is fitted with Lotus Cortina struts, competition dampers and Lotus wheels, resulting we are informed, with beautiful handling. Further upgrades include a competition clutch, Ford bullet gearbox, Brantz Rally tripmeter and Terratrip intercom and headsets, all very useful and proven as it has successfully completed a multitude of European rallies, including the Monte-Carlo Classic and Winter Raid Rallies.
This Ford Cortina 1500 GT presents extremely well, the coachwork being exceptionally straight with the mechanical condition to match. It is ready for historic rallying or fast road use. Included in the large history file are magazine articles on this motor car, invoices, the UK V5 registration document and we are informed, will arrive at the sale with a fresh MoT test certificate. This Mk. I Cortina 1500 GT is a splendid example and ready to enjoy a wealth of UK or continental events."
