We are at the end of the 1970s and the Dino 308 GT4 is coming to the end of its career. Convinced of the viability of a four-seater GT with a central rear engine, Enzo Ferrari entrusted the design of the new V8 saloon to Pininfarina. Thus was born in 1980 the Ferrari Mondial, which would have an exceptionally long career of 14 years, unthinkable today. The line was refined and brought up to the standards of the time. Wrap-around bumpers, side ventilation grilles, retractable headlights. The bodywork remains on a tubular chassis, whose wheelbase is ten centimetres longer, making the Ferrari Mondial more habitable than its predecessor. The four overhead camshaft V8 engine, transmission and rear suspension are mounted on a new, removable cradle that supports the engine, transmission and rear suspension, and is located in the rear centre. It originally develops 214 horsepower, a power that will gradually increase with the Quattrovalvole series to 240, then 270 with the 3.2 Mondial and finally peak at 300 with the Mondial T. To promote habitability, the Ferrari Mondial is equipped with four independent seats in Connolly leather, allowing even rear passengers to travel comfortably while benefiting from the vocalisations of the V8.
The version we offer here is a Mondial 3.2 Cabriolet delivered new on March 25, 1987 by the Ferrari dealer in Triesen, Liechtenstein. The car is thus registered for the first time in Switzerland in the canton of Vaud and is therefore equipped with a catalytic converter. As can be seen from the maintenance manual and the maintenance sheets, the car has been regularly serviced almost without interruption until 2014. It was then imported into Belgium on the initiative of a collector living in the Kortrijk region. Our car is in its original configuration with its Rosso Corsa colour and its superb Connolly beige leather in perfect condition. The bodywork is in very good condition, free of all traces of shocks, the alignments are good and the black soft top is impeccable. When we open the front trunk, we find the jack but above all the Ferrari tools in their original cover. With only 47,350 kilometres on its odometer, and having benefited from recent maintenance with the change of the distribution system and the water pump, this Ferrari Mondial represents the opportunity to acquire a real berlinetta with a V8 engine, convertible, with four real seats, for a very competitive price.
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Paris, France, on March the 21th, 2021.
