In 2008, Scuderia Ferrari won its 16th Formula 1 World Constructors' Championship, a record that remains unbeaten to this day, meaning Ferrari are still the most successful F1 team. The Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M was made to celebrate this record. They converted the 430 Scuderia, which the legendary Michael Schumacher helped develop, into a convertible and this made it into one of the fastest open-top Ferraris ever.
This example is in great condition both inside and outside. The black exterior is accented with a grey stripe for a racier look. This car features an aftermarket titanium-tipped exhaust with variable valves which produces spine-tingling noise. The rear grill and dashboard proudly display special plaques that indicate that this is no ordinary Ferrari.
The main appeal of the 16M is of course the upgrade in performance over the standard F430 Spider. It weighs 1,440kg, 80kg less than the F430 Spider and uses the same NA 4.3-litre DOHC 32-valve V8 but with power raised to 510hp. To handle all this power and ensure great track performance, the front brakes have 6-pot calipers while the rears have 4-pots. It does 0-100kph in 3.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 315kph. According to Ferrari, it was the fastest open-top car around the Fiorano test track they had ever made. Faster lap times are also thanks to the electronics and vast amount of data. Their traction and stability control system called “F1-Trac”, monitors wheel-speed and adjusts power delivery when it detects loss of grip. This technology helps both experienced and less experienced drivers to be faster and safer. A dial switch on the steering wheel called the “Manettino” allows the driver to adjust the level of intervention from the traction control system.
The 16M is not only fast but offers excitement which is further enhanced when the roof is down as it allows the driver to fully enjoy the sound of the NA V8.
