Description
Penned by Pininfarina’s Leonardo Fioravanti and introduced at the 1975 Paris Auto Show, the Ferrari 308 GTB was a stunning success. Intended as a replacement for the 246 Dino, the new two-seat sports car shared much of its suspension with its predecessor, but eschewed the Dino’s Fiat-built V-6 engine in favor of a three-liter Ferrari V-8, shared with the 308 GT4.
This 1978 308 GTB left Maranello bound for Miami finished in Oro Chiaro (Bright Gold) with Testa Di Moro (Deep Brown) interior, an exceedingly rare and handsome combination. Though its early history is unknown, the car was purchased by the consignors in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2014 and transported by ship back to Italy for a 10-month concours restoration by Italian master craftsmen. Highly respected Ferrari restorers Toni Auto of Maranello completed the engine rebuild and refurbished the mechanicals, while Tappezzeria Luppi of Modena expertly restored the car’s rich leather interior. The restoration was meticulously documented in photographs and assembled in an exquisite journal that accompanies the sale.
This concours-restored Ferrari 308 GTB in its original, exceptionally rare color combination is offered complete with its tool kit and jack, Ferrari Classiche Red Book, and matching handmade presentation box containing its restoration journal. It presents a striking and rare opportunity for the Ferrari aficionado to stand apart from the crowd.
