Description
This all-aluminium car body was created in 1968 to enhance the chassis of the Ferrari 250 GT Lusso #4467. Originally purchased in 1964 by Carlo Erba, a pharmaceutical company from Milan, but following an accident in 1968, the car was sold to Italian-American Tom Meade who was buying used Ferraris for the American market. Tom Meade turned to the Allegretti Mario Coachbuilders in Modena to rebuild the chassis with an all-aluminium body, not only the doors, bonnet and boot lid, but also the rest of the car body. Once completed, the steel and wooden panels were beaten and panelled by hand to reproduce the exact shapes and sizes of the surfaces. The car was reassembled on the chassis complete with mechanics and then exported to California where it began a sporting career, the reason why the lightweight bodywork was commissioned entirely in aluminium.
In the early 1990s, the Ferrari 250 GT Lusso changed hands and returned to Italy. The new owner completely restored the car and, in order to obtain the Ferrari Classiche certification, replaced the aluminium body with the original steel one.
The proposed car body is the aluminium one made in 1968 by the Mario Allegretti Coachbuilders, as proven by accompanying documents.
Bodywork must be collected from the province of Teramo.
