The car featured gull-wing doors and an unusual fibreglass chassis and underbody structure, along with a brushed stainless steel body and is probably most widely known for its appearance as a time machine in the 'Back to the Future' film trilogy. It was designed by the talented Giorgetto Giugiaro of Ital Design and built on a chassis engineered by Lotus with a 2.9-litre V6 engine sourced from Peugeot-Renault-Volvo.This rare, five-speed manual example was manufactured in Belfast in 1981, shipped to the United States and remained with the first owner in Florida until being purchased directly from him by our vendor. Registered in the UK to the importing shipping agent on 1st May 2017, the car was subsequently registered to our vendor three days later on the 4th May.The car features the desirable grey leather interior, as seen in the movie car, original radio and clock with no apparent cracking to the dashboard which is a common fault with the DMC-12. The history file is extensive and includes theservice history, a copy of the purchase agreement, original cleaning kit, original spare wheel, DMC cover, anda large quantity of American paperwork relating to servicing works. To this consignors eye, the alloys wheels could do with being refurbished to correct the surface reaction.
