Introduced in 1934, the Traction had the effect of a paving stone in the car's pond: its low, slender line, designed by Flaminio Bertoni, was in stark contrast to the cars of the time, which were higher, steeper and less contoured. This shape was made possible by the monocoque structure and front wheel drive, two revolutionary techniques for the time and which also allowed a much better handling than traditional sedans. This car, whose career has lasted more than 20 years, has definitively confirmed Citroën's reputation as an enterprising and technically avant-garde manufacturer.
The Traction that interests us in its pages is a charming little 11 BL from 1938. Black dress and inside covered with period accessory covers. It was first registered at the end of 1938 in the Cher prefecture by a craftsman. Then it was Mr. Blanchet's turn to acquire it in the early 1980s. A garage owner of his own condition, he owns the eponymous garage in St Victor, in the Allier region. A great Citroën enthusiast, he restores this Traction and regularly uses it for his family walks in the countryside. It is now presented in a beautiful state of use and presents the charming patina of an old restoration. It is in good working order and still retains its original gearbox and engine, dated May 1938 and equipped with a Perfo cylinder head, which brings the power to 46 hp.
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in La Ferté-Vidame, at the Citroën Centenary, France, on July the 21th, 2019.
