First presented in March 1934 as a sedan in front of the main Citroën dealerships, the 7 quickly expanded its range with two other versions, called by Citroën faux-cabriolet and roadster. The work of the genius Italian sculptor Flaminio Bertoni, the Traction Avant will be a worldwide success, but unfortunately its progenitor André Citroën will not be born.
Jean Paul Cardinal had a long career at Citroën. He was only 19 years old when he joined the brand's design office. In the engine research and development section, he then began training as a trimmer on 2CV production machines. He then joined the design office where he was noticed for his aptitude and dedication to this brand that fascinated him. He then became an instructor at the Training Centre between 1964 and 1969. In 1969, Jacques Wolgensinger and Georges St Génies offered him the opportunity to take care of the Blue Formula, a discipline financed by Citroën and Total, the MEPs. Shortly afterwards, Claude-Alain Sarre, the brand's president at the time, offered him the opportunity to join the Public Relations Department. He will also be the initiator of the Citroën Conservatory. It will thus work to safeguard the brand's rich heritage. Still in love with the old works of the brand with chevrons, he himself will own some interesting cars including the roadster that we present in these pages.
This Traction roadster is a 1936 model. It was originally green with black wings. Mr. Cardinal acquired it in the 1980s just before the great celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Traction. The car is in rather poor condition and requires in-depth restoration. The Mersch establishments are in charge of repairing the bodywork, while the mechanical restoration will be carried out by Jean Paul himself. In the choice of colours and final configuration, it was inspired by the roadster of Mr. Pilon, owner of an identical model, in red and black. Restored 30 years ago, the car is now in excellent condition. It is perfectly in conformity with its factory exit, without any apparent anachronism with an 11HP engine dated April 1935. During our test on the small roads of Charente, the car worked perfectly and will delight its driver with the smooth operation of the gearbox and brakes. This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a very beautiful and authentic Traction roadster, having belonged to an emblematic character of the brand with chevrons.

This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in La Ferté-Vidame, at the Citroën Centenary, France, on July the 21th, 2019.
