Description

One of the boldest automotive designs to come out of Europe in the 1970s, the Citroën SM, priced at $12,000, guaranteed exclusivity and unabashed luxury. Thanks to Citroën’s vast experience with hydraulics, the SM became legendary for its incredible ride quality and comfort at speed over almost any road surface.

Completed for North American export in May 1972, this SM was originally sold in Toronto, Ontario, and is a particularly well-kept example. In 2014, a cosmetic restoration was undertaken by Streetworks in Waukesha, Wisconsin, including installation of new carpets and refurbishment of the original interior’s brown leather as well as a repaint in the original color of gold metallic. Completing the project, the SM was mechanically reconditioned by Jerry Hathaway’s SM World in Canyon Country, California, which has been servicing and restoring SMs since 1972. The Maserati V-6 engine, transmission, brakes, and hydraulic components, including the cutting-edge suspension and variable-assist steering system, all received expert care.

Since the completion of restoration, the SM has been driven sparingly, for testing and final adjustments. It is accompanied by original tools, an owner’s manual, and a warranty booklet. Among the finest of its kind, this striking SM is a captivating example of a modern French classic.
