The car we are presenting is a 1971 carburettor SM. This copy has been fully prepared for historical rallies. SM2A made all these modifications at the request of Damien Ancelin who wanted to create his own racing team: Rallye Classic Team. The car is based on the sky blue livery of the SM that won the 1971 Moroccan Rally. In order to improve reliability and performance, the mechanics have been completely revised. The engine was completely dismantled, it was fitted with a hydraulic chain tensioner and the valves were reinforced, a partitioned oil pan was installed and the ignition was completely redone. To limit engine overheating problems, an oil cooler and an additional fan have been installed. The hydraulic system has been completely redesigned and the spheres have been adjusted to suit the practice of rallying. At the electrical level, the harness has been completely redesigned and optimized, the sensitive points sealed, a circuit breaker installed and the battery moved into the trunk. Additional lights have also been installed. To ensure lightness, the air conditioning system has been dismantled and the body completely emptied. A 6-point rollbar was custom-made and two bucket seats and 4-point harnesses were installed. The car also has all the necessary instrumentation for the co-pilot. Since this preparation, the car has participated in many rallies such as the Monte Carlo Historique on 3 occasions or the Portuguese Rally and the Serre Chevalier winter round.
Purchased 5 years ago by its current owners, this SM has 48,000 km on the meter, which corresponds to the distance covered since its preparation at SM2A. In five years, many works have been carried out, the clutch and its transmitter have been replaced and a stainless steel line has been installed. At the electrical level, the alternator and the entire ignition harness have been replaced.
This vehicle has been carefully maintained and this can be seen behind the wheel. The car's handling is lively and the accelerations are straightforward, the V6's upshifts invite you to do just one thing, accelerate! The only defect of the car is in the bodywork, having participated in many winter rallies, traces of corrosion appear on the chassis and bodywork. A new painting would be expected if you want to participate in prestigious rallies. Nevertheless the car remains quite usable in its original condition and once behind the wheel, the pleasure is guaranteed! Our SM represents an excellent opportunity to discover a surprising car that will give you access to the best historical rallies on the calendar.
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in La Ferté-Vidame, at the Citroën Centenary, France, on July the 21th, 2019.
