The 2CV Citroën owes its birth to a visionary named Pierre Jules Boulanger. A brilliant concept, it is a simple and robust car that requires very little maintenance. Although initially highly criticized, it quickly became a desired object and it is not uncommon to wait several years to take possession of it because the order book is so full. Over the course of its long career, the legendary 2CV will be equipped with different types of suspension, until it adopts an amazing spring system for only a few months. This real rolling prototype will only be produced on the 1955 model year.
The model we offer is a 2CV AZ-U van equipped with visible springs, it was put into service on 22/02/1955. Retained by its previous owner from 1994 to 2017, its current owner acquired it at an auction in 2017. This 2CV is now in very good original condition, never restored. Its patina is superb! Following its acquisition, the mechanics will be completely revised. To date it works perfectly well and its test drive has been very successful. Its bodywork and chassis are very healthy. As on all vans, the empty weight and maximum authorised load are stencilled on the right front fender and inside the bucket, proof that the bodywork has never been repainted. The interior, too, is very well preserved in its original state, and the driver's side sun visor has retained its original sticker. The 2CV vans with exposed springs are extremely rare, according to the specialist Antoine Demetz, only 20 specimens are recorded to date in the whole world. A highly sought-after piece, all the more in original condition and never restored, our 2CV deserves the attention of the most demanding collectors. Offered today as an attractive estimate, it is certain that an opportunity like this will not come up again any time soon!
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in La Ferté-Vidame, at the Citroën Centenary, France, on July the 21th, 2019.
