Model history
Chevrolet Caprice in its normal guise is a calm, timid, body-on-frame saloon car. However, the Impala SS version is a completely different animal. Under the bonnet of this American M5-rivalling car there was an 8-cylinder, 5727 cc engine codenamed LT1. It developed 260 BHP, which was transferred to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Impala SS was the sportiest version in the Impala range, which makes it highly desirable. The founding for the SS version was a Caprice in police specification. GM’s engineers added LT1 engine to it, together with a new body kit, which included new spoilers, sills, badges and grille. Impala SS was available only in 3 paint colours: black, Dark Cherry Metallic and Dark Grey Green. Overall 21 434 examples were sold.

Vehicle history
Impala SS offered at the National Stadium Auction is a very sound example with an interesting provenance. It was originally sold to Japan and was shipped to Poland after a couple of years. The paint and body are in good condition. What’s more, the documents suggest that the car has regularly been driven and serviced for the recent couple of years, which means it didn’t sit stationary. Interior of the car does have some patina to it and a couple of shortcomings, but it is complete and looks fine.
