Description
"The Eldorado was a hit, lasting from the early 50’s to 2002 and over ten different generations. It is no coincidence the name ‘El Dorado ‘refers to the South American lost city of gold as this was Cadillac’s premium brand. These were dramatic motorcars and celebrated all that the USA represented in its heyday. Tailfins in the 50’s began with the Eldorado, once again, pointing the way forward both in terms of styling and technological innovation. 1957 saw the hand-built ‘Series 70 Eldorado Brougham’ sporting unique trim, quad headlights and costing more than the equivalent Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. These headlights can still be found today on the Eldorado Coupé. It was radically redesigned in 1967 to capitalise on the era's burgeoning personal luxury car market. Promoted as a ‘personal’ Cadillac, the crisp styling, initiated by GM styling chief Bill Mitchell, was distinctive and unique. In 1970, the Eldorado introduced the new 8.2 litre engine driving, unusually, the front wheels allowing for an extremely roomy interior.
This Cadillac has been in a private collection and has been kept to a very good standard. Showing no signs of corrosion, the metallic dark grey paintwork is in good order as is the exceptionally spacious black leather interior. Turn the key and fire up the 7.0 litre V8, suddenly this car comes into its own, the smoothness yet rapid acceleration is plainly abundant. The styling of these classic American cars is superb, with the ultra-thin rear lights, huge bonnet and copious amounts of chromework. With electric windows, power steering and air conditioning, this well-appointed Eldorado is a real head turner. We are advised by the vendor the UK registration has been applied for and it is anticipated this will be completed prior to the auction."
