While the motoring press focussed on the numerous road car 'firsts' such as the first electronic 'fly-by-wire' throttle, the first 'CAN bus' system to cut down the complexity and weight of the electrical system and the first BMW multi-link rear axle, what really impressed most people was just the sheer presence of the thing.

Luxuriously trimmed inside and packed with all the gadgets that its jet-set client base could wish for, the 8 Series turned every journey into an occasion and made the driver feel special every time they slipped behind the wheel. Initially, it was powered by a magnificent all-alloy, 5-litre V12 that produced 295bhp and a mighty 330lb/ft of torque. Allied to a 5-speed automatic gearbox that could be operated manually if really rapid progress was desired, this was sufficient to generate a 0-60mph time of just 6.8 seconds on its way to a top speed electronically limited to 155mph. An equally brilliant 4-litre V8 engine was also later offered, as was a 4.4-litre which addressed the lack of torque of the smaller engined car.
The car offered here is a UK-supplied right-hand drive BMW 850i supplied new to its first owner through BMW Cooper, Park Lane and first registered on 1st March 1991. Finished in Mauritius Blue, the interior is finished in grey leather which remains in remarkable condition to this day. Under the bonnet of this Grand Tourer lurks the V12 unit mated to a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

The original service book which accompanies the car shows more than 15 stamps from both BMW main dealers and specialists, with the last service being carried out in August '17 at Halliwell Jones BMW, Wilmslow. A 9-page invoice totalling over £6,000 details the work carried out at this time which included: Remedy power steering fault, new rear brake discs, all fluids & filters and a host of other remedial work to ensure this 850i was back to fine fettle.

Having now covered only 532 miles since this service and with the odometer now reading an incredibly low 39,882 miles, this car is supplied with a UK V5c and its book pack containing all relevant literature. Rarely do 8-series BMW's come to market in this condition and with this mileage, and we urge you to come and see this car for yourself.
