Description
The Aston Martin DB6 was the swansong for the DB line and is often regarded as the best evolution. Introduced in 1965, Motor magazine was quick to praise the speed and handling of the new body design. With refinement in all areas it was only slightly heavier than the DB5 which contradicted the altogether chunkier appearance. The design brief was to improve rear leg and head room so that the DB6 was a true Grand Tourer, which, in execution it excelled. The most distinctive change was the introduction of the Kamm tail already characteristic of the Ferrari 275GTB/4 for which Aston Martin claimed a 30% reduction in lift at speed on the rear axle. The Tadek Marek designed straight-six engine was bored out to 4.0 litres and power went up to 282bhp giving more than adequate performance for a sports car with Grand Tourer capabilities. Aston Martin had succeeded in replacing the DB5 which benefited from the 'Goldfinger' effect with a very worthy successor that raised the bar for sixties British Grand Tourers.
Aston Martin's records confirm it to be originally supplied to H.R.Owen in Blue with automatic transmission. By 1985, and now registered 'TED 393' it had been upgraded to Vantage specification by Edward Welch Motor Engineers. It remained in his possession until being acquired by our vendor in 2004.
Our vendor is only the fifth owner of this manual DB6 upgraded to Vantage specification earlier in its history. Finished in Silver Birch with blue interior it has been subject to a very exacting restoration which still presents beautifully today. The original handbook, various early receipts are present and a full MoT make this an Aston Martin to be enjoyed on the road. The market is awakening to the value of the DB6 as pricing rotates to the next obtainable model. After all, its the best driving of the series with incredible presence. Our example offers the opportunity to invest and enjoy in the next 'clever buy'....
