Description

An iconic model from the marque whose logo bears the serpent of Milan, the Alfa Romeo Giulia went on sale in 1962 to replace the Giulietta.
It proved so successful that it remained in production until 1977 and was available in several different versions. Produced in 1290cc and 1570cc form, its engine was a four-cylinder in-line unit with twin overhead camshafts, made entirely from aluminium.
Its distinctive body styling was the outcome of aerodynamic research which resulted in a record-breaking drag coefficient of 0.34, well below that of the contemporary Porsche 911. Finally, the Giulia also broke new ground in terms of its passive safety features, with crumple zones at the front and rear.
Thanks to all these characteristics, the Giulia was one of the safest and bestperforming cars on the market until the end of the 1970s. In 1965, an endurance test carried out on a speed ring also served to demonstrate the model's durability, when it covered 200,000km (124,274 miles) at 150km/h (93mph)!
The Giulia Nuova Super which we are offering for sale dates from 1974 and is from the model's second series. It features the final changes to the car's appearance made by the manufacturer, notably at the front with a new black radiator grille incorporating a new treatment of Alfa's logo, as well as bigger bumpers. In this guise, the Giulia continued to perform remarkably well, thanks to its mechanical specification and handling. In its day, it was the fastest 1300 saloon on the market, with the quickest time over the standing kilometre in its class. This particular model has been maintained in good overall condition. The bodywork shows no signs of corrosion and the interior is immaculate. No tears are to be seen on the vinyl upholstery, while the patina of the dashboard lends a sense of authenticity to the interior of the car. The engine is as pleasant to use as ever, and the car is easy to drive. On the road, it handles very safely, the brakes work faultlessly, and the five-speed gearbox is simple to use.
